What It Is

A shared promise to do better

The Driving Up Quality Code was created by the sector, for the sector, to raise the quality of support for people with a learning disability and autistic people. Signing up is voluntary — it’s a public promise to keep improving.

We self-assess honestly against the Code’s five areas, involve the people we support in that assessment, and use it to keep pushing ourselves further.

Signing up means we:

The Code

The five areas we commit to

The Driving Up Quality Code sets out five areas that together define genuinely great support. Here’s what each means, and how we put it into practice.

Support is focused on the person

Everything starts with the individual — their wishes, needs and aspirations shape their support.

An ordinary, meaningful life

People are supported to live the everyday life they choose, with real opportunities and relationships.

Happiness & quality of life

Care and support focus on people being happy and enjoying a genuinely good quality of life.

A good culture matters

A positive, open culture runs through the whole organisation, from frontline teams upwards.

Strong leadership

Managers and board members lead and run the organisation well, keeping quality at the top of the agenda.

Our commitment, in the open

We don’t treat the Code as a box to tick. Each year we assess ourselves honestly against all five areas, alongside the people we support, and share what we find — celebrating what’s working and being clear about where we want to do better.
