Working In Supported Living At Moreways Healthcare

Working at Moreways Healthcare means becoming part of a team that supports adults to live safer, more independent and more fulfilling lives. Our colleagues provide practical, emotional and outcome-focused support while respecting each person’s rights, choices, dignity and individuality.

Our services support adults with a range of needs, including complex mental health needs, autism, learning disabilities, forensic histories and other support requirements. Some people may be moving from hospital or secure settings into the community, while others may be developing the skills needed to maintain a stable tenancy and live with greater independence.

This work is meaningful, varied and professionally demanding. It requires patience, sound judgement, strong communication and a genuine commitment to helping people achieve their goals. In return, colleagues have the opportunity to build valuable experience, develop professionally and make a measurable difference every day.

A career with Moreways Healthcare is an opportunity to build trusted relationships, support positive change and help people work towards greater independence. Every shift contributes to someone’s safety, stability, confidence and quality of life.

Meaningful Work

Help people build confidence, maintain their homes, develop practical skills and take an active role in their communities.

Professional Growth

Develop your knowledge through induction, training, supervision, competency assessment and opportunities for career progression.

Supportive Teams

Work alongside colleagues, managers and professionals who share responsibility for safe, consistent and person-centred support.

Who We Support

Moreways Healthcare provides supported living services for adults whose needs may be complex, long term or subject to change. The people we support are individuals first, and every person has their own strengths, preferences, experiences and aspirations.

Support may be provided to adults with mental health needs, autism, learning disabilities, dual diagnosis, forensic histories or other complex circumstances. Some individuals may require structured support following discharge from hospital or a secure setting. Others may need assistance to maintain their tenancy, manage daily responsibilities, improve wellbeing or develop greater confidence within the community.

Working with us means recognising that support should not be based on assumptions. Colleagues are expected to understand each person’s support plan, communication needs, risk-management arrangements and desired outcomes, while promoting independence and avoiding unnecessary restrictions.

Promoting Independence

Support workers help people complete tasks with the right level of assistance rather than automatically doing everything for them. This may involve breaking tasks into manageable steps, offering encouragement, developing routines and recognising progress.

The aim is to build confidence and capability wherever possible while ensuring that agreed safeguards and professional recommendations are followed.

Supporting Stability And Wellbeing

Colleagues provide consistent support that helps people maintain routines, attend appointments, manage their health, build positive relationships and remain engaged with their communities.

Reliable, respectful support can play an important role in reducing crisis, supporting recovery and helping people maintain a stable home.

What Our Support Teams Do

The exact duties within a role depend on the service, the people being supported and the level of responsibility attached to the position. Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Contributing to handovers, meetings and service reviews

Roles At Moreways Healthcare

Our workforce includes frontline support roles, service leadership positions and central functions that help maintain quality, governance and effective operations. Vacancies vary according to organisational need and service availability.

Senior Support Worker

Supports colleagues, contributes to shift leadership and helps ensure records, handovers and daily practice remain safe, consistent and well organised.

Team Leader

Provides operational leadership, supports staff development and helps managers maintain high standards of support, communication and accountability.

Deputy Manager

Central Support Roles

Opportunities may arise in operations, finance, compliance, human resources, recruitment, training, administration, property and information technology.

What We Look For

Some roles require relevant qualifications or previous experience, particularly management and specialist positions. For many frontline support roles, however, personal values, reliability and a willingness to learn are equally important.

We look for people who can treat others with respect, remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly and take responsibility for their actions. Supported living can involve complex situations, so colleagues must be able to follow agreed plans while responding thoughtfully to changing circumstances.

Respect

Treating every person as an individual and protecting their dignity, rights and choices.

Reliability

Being dependable, punctual and consistent in a service where people rely on planned support.

Professionalism

Maintaining boundaries, confidentiality, accurate records and accountable working practices.

Teamwork

Sharing information, supporting colleagues and working constructively with other professionals.

The Working Environment

Supported living services operate according to the needs of the people living there. Roles may therefore involve daytime, evening, weekend, bank-holiday or night working. Available shift patterns depend on the vacancy and the staffing requirements of the particular service.

Colleagues may work independently for parts of a shift while remaining part of a wider team. Strong handovers, accurate records and clear escalation are therefore essential. Some shifts may be calm and routine, while others may require colleagues to respond to changes in wellbeing, behaviour, risk or professional instructions.

The role can be challenging. It may require resilience, patience and the ability to remain professional during difficult situations. It can also be highly rewarding, particularly when someone achieves a goal, develops a new skill or becomes more confident in managing their own life.

Training And Induction

New colleagues receive induction and role-specific guidance before working independently. Training requirements vary by position and service but may include safeguarding, medicines, mental health, autism, learning disabilities, health and safety, confidentiality and incident reporting.

Managers use supervision, observations and competency assessments to help colleagues apply their learning safely in practice.

Career Development

Colleagues are encouraged to develop their skills and take greater responsibility where suitable opportunities arise. Progression may involve becoming a senior support worker, team leader, deputy manager, service manager or moving into a central support function.

Development depends on performance, competence, organisational need and the requirements of each role.
