Modern Slavery Statement

Last reviewed: July 2026

Moreways Healthcare is committed to conducting its business ethically, responsibly and with integrity. We recognise that modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude and exploitation remain significant global issues and have a responsibility to play our part in preventing these practices within our organisation and, where reasonably practicable, throughout our supply chain.

This statement outlines our commitment to reducing the risk of modern slavery in accordance with the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and explains the measures we take to promote ethical working practices throughout Moreways Healthcare.

Our Organisation

Moreways Healthcare provides supported living services for adults with a range of needs, including mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, forensic histories and other complex support requirements.

Our services are delivered through community-based supported living environments where we work closely with local authorities, NHS organisations, Integrated Care Boards, commissioners, healthcare professionals, landlords and other partner agencies to support individuals in living as independently as possible.

We believe every individual has the right to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect. These values underpin the way we recruit staff, work with suppliers and deliver our services.

Our Commitment

Moreways Healthcare has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, compulsory labour, human trafficking and all forms of exploitation.

We are committed to:

  • Promoting lawful, fair and ethical employment practices.
  • Treating every employee, worker and contractor with dignity and respect.
  • Complying with applicable employment legislation and professional standards.
  • Taking appropriate action where concerns about exploitation are identified.
  • Working with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical business practices.
  • Promoting awareness of safeguarding, exploitation and modern slavery throughout our organisation.

Employment Practices

We aim to ensure that everyone working for Moreways Healthcare does so voluntarily, lawfully and under fair conditions.

Our recruitment processes are designed to support safe and transparent employment and include appropriate pre-employment checks relevant to each role. Depending on the position, these may include identity verification, right to work checks, employment history, references and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks where required.

Employees receive written terms and conditions of employment, are paid through recognised payroll systems and are free to end their employment in accordance with their contractual arrangements and applicable employment law.

We do not knowingly employ anyone who has been subjected to forced labour or exploitative working practices.

Our Supply Chain

As a provider of supported living services, our supply chain includes a range of organisations supplying goods and services such as facilities management, maintenance, utilities, cleaning products, office supplies, information technology, professional services, recruitment, training and other operational support.

Although we consider the overall risk of modern slavery within much of our supply chain to be relatively low, we recognise that risks can exist within any organisation or sector.

Where appropriate, we seek to work with suppliers who demonstrate ethical business standards, comply with relevant legislation and operate appropriate employment practices.

If concerns are identified regarding a supplier or contractor, we expect them to be investigated promptly and appropriate action taken where necessary.

Safeguarding And Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is recognised as a safeguarding issue.

People receiving supported living services may, in some circumstances, be vulnerable to exploitation because of age, disability, mental health needs, social isolation or other personal circumstances.

Our safeguarding arrangements are designed to help staff recognise indicators of abuse, exploitation, coercion, financial abuse and other forms of harm. Staff are expected to report concerns promptly using our safeguarding procedures so that appropriate action can be taken in partnership with the relevant authorities where necessary.

Safeguarding responsibilities extend to protecting the rights and wellbeing of every person who uses our services.

Training And Awareness

We believe that awareness is an important part of preventing exploitation.

Employees receive training appropriate to their role, which may include safeguarding, equality and diversity, professional conduct, whistleblowing and recognising indicators of abuse or exploitation.

Managers are expected to promote an open culture where concerns can be raised without fear of retaliation and where safeguarding issues are taken seriously.

Reporting Concerns

Every employee has a responsibility to report concerns relating to suspected exploitation, forced labour, human trafficking or other unethical practices.

Concerns may be raised through line management, senior management, safeguarding procedures or our whistleblowing arrangements where appropriate.

All concerns are treated seriously and, where necessary, will be referred to the appropriate statutory authorities.

Continuous Improvement

Moreways Healthcare recognises that preventing modern slavery requires ongoing vigilance.

We will continue to review our policies, recruitment procedures, safeguarding arrangements and supplier relationships to promote ethical working practices and reduce the risk of exploitation wherever reasonably practicable.

Our commitment forms part of our wider approach to quality, governance, safeguarding and responsible business practice.
