Internships At Moreways Healthcare

An internship with Moreways Healthcare can provide structured exposure to supported living, organisational services and the wider health and social care sector.

Internships are intended to combine supervised practical experience with clear learning objectives. Depending on current organisational requirements, an internship may involve a frontline service, central department or defined project.

Moreways Healthcare does not operate a guaranteed annual internship programme. Opportunities are considered according to business need, available supervision, the suitability of the proposed placement and our responsibility to protect the privacy, safety and wellbeing of the people we support.

Where an internship is available, its duration, working pattern, location, responsibilities, payment status and eligibility requirements will be stated clearly before the placement begins.

Learn Through Experience

Turn Academic Knowledge Into Practical Understanding

An internship can help you understand how supported living services operate, how different teams work together and how professional decisions affect the quality, safety and experience of the people we support.

Structured Learning

Work towards defined learning objectives with appropriate guidance, scheduled review and opportunities to reflect on your development.

Professional Exposure

Observe how colleagues communicate, manage responsibilities, maintain records and contribute to safe organisational practice.

Transferable Skills

Develop communication, organisation, teamwork, critical thinking and professional confidence that can support your future career.

What An Internship May Involve

The content of an internship will depend on the agreed department, project and learning objectives. Interns will not be assigned unrestricted access to confidential information or responsibilities for which they are not trained, supervised and authorised.

Some placements may focus on observing organisational processes. Others may involve supporting a defined project, preparing information, undertaking research, assisting with administrative work or contributing to approved service-development activity.

Every internship should have a clear purpose. Tasks should support learning while also providing a useful and proportionate contribution to the relevant team.

Service Operations

Learn how supported living services organise communication, records, staffing, quality checks and day-to-day operational responsibilities.

Quality And Compliance

Gain supervised insight into policies, audits, action planning, quality monitoring and organisational improvement processes.

Business Administration

Support appropriate administrative activity involving organisation, document preparation, data handling or communication.

Digital And Data

Contribute to suitable technology, information-management or digital-improvement projects under appropriate supervision.

Communications

Assist with approved website, information, design, research or organisational communication work where an opportunity exists.

People And Learning

Observe appropriate recruitment, induction, training or workforce-development processes without accessing restricted employee information unnecessarily.

Frontline And Central Internships

An internship connected with a frontline service is different from an internship within a central department. The type of placement will determine the checks, supervision arrangements and tasks that may be appropriate.

Service-Based Experience

A service-based internship may provide supervised exposure to the way supported living operates, including professional communication, activities, records and quality processes.

Interns must not replace employed support workers or assume independent responsibility for people receiving support.

Direct contact with people we support will only take place where it is appropriate, agreed and supported by the required safeguards.

Central Department Experience

A central internship may involve an approved project within areas such as administration, compliance, communications, finance support, digital systems or workforce development.

Access to personal, financial or commercially sensitive information will be restricted according to the role and learning requirement.

Interns must follow the same confidentiality and information-security expectations as other authorised personnel.

Who May Be Suitable?

Internship enquiries may come from current students, recent graduates or people undertaking a recognised programme of professional development.

Suitability will depend on the internship’s purpose and requirements. We may consider applicants studying subjects such as health and social care, psychology, social policy, or other relevant disciplines.

A particular subject does not guarantee a placement. The applicant must also demonstrate professional conduct, reliability and an appropriate understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.

Curiosity

Ask thoughtful questions, seek context and remain open to constructive feedback.

Reliability

Attend as agreed, communicate promptly and complete assigned work responsibly.

Respect

Recognise individual rights, different experiences and the importance of professional dignity.

Integrity

Handle information honestly, maintain confidentiality and raise concerns appropriately.

A Structured Experience

From Enquiry To Completion

Every suitable internship should begin with clear expectations and conclude with an opportunity to review learning, contribution and next steps.

01

Enquiry

Explain your course, interests, availability and learning objectives.

02

Assessment

We consider suitability, availability and organisational capacity.

03

Checks

Any required identity, reference or safeguarding checks are completed.

04

Induction

The placement, boundaries, responsibilities and support arrangements are explained.

05

Review

Progress and learning are discussed during and at the end of the internship.

Supervision And Support

Each intern should have a named supervisor or departmental contact. This person will explain the agreed work, provide guidance and monitor whether the placement remains appropriate.

Interns should ask for clarification where they are uncertain. They must not make unsupported assumptions or undertake activity beyond the agreed scope of the placement.

Regular discussion may cover progress, learning objectives, workload, professional conduct, confidentiality and any difficulties affecting the internship.

During The Internship

  • Named supervisor or departmental contact
  • Clear responsibilities and learning objectives
  • Opportunities to ask questions
  • Proportionate feedback and review
  • Guidance on confidentiality and boundaries
  • Escalation arrangements for concerns

At The End

  • Review of agreed learning objectives
  • Discussion of strengths and development areas
  • Opportunity to provide feedback
  • Confirmation of completed placement activity where appropriate
  • General career guidance where reasonably available
  • No automatic guarantee of future employment

Safeguarding And Confidentiality

Moreways Healthcare supports adults who may have complex needs and personal histories. Interns must respect their dignity, privacy and right to appropriate protection.

Personal, medical, safeguarding, employment and organisational information must not be shared outside authorised channels. Interns must not retain copies of records, photographs, screenshots or internal documents unless expressly permitted for a legitimate purpose.

Any concern about abuse, neglect, exploitation, unsafe practice or inappropriate conduct must be reported immediately. Interns must not investigate safeguarding concerns themselves or promise secrecy.

Professional Boundaries Apply At All Times

Interns must not form inappropriate personal relationships, exchange private contact details without authorisation, accept or give significant gifts, provide unauthorised transport or communicate with people receiving support through personal social-media accounts.

Questions about boundaries should be discussed with the internship supervisor before any action is taken.

Checks And Eligibility

The checks required depend on the nature of the internship. A central project with no contact with people receiving support may require different arrangements from a placement based within a supported living service.

Requirements may include identity verification, references, confirmation from an educational institution, right-to-work or right-to-participate checks and a Disclosure and Barring Service check where the activities are eligible and require one.

Applicants must provide complete and accurate information. An internship cannot begin until all required arrangements have been completed and formally confirmed.

Identity

Applicants may be asked to provide valid evidence confirming their identity.

References

Academic, professional or character references may be requested where appropriate.

DBS

A DBS check may be required where the internship duties are eligible and justify one.

Eligibility

Applicants must be legally permitted to undertake the agreed internship in the United Kingdom.

Payment And Expenses

The financial arrangements for an internship must be stated clearly before it begins. Opportunities may be paid, unpaid where legally permissible, or organised through an educational institution.

Any payment, allowance or reimbursement of reasonable expenses will depend on the specific internship and must be agreed in writing. Applicants should not assume that travel, meals, accommodation or other costs will be covered unless this has been expressly confirmed.

Moreways Healthcare will determine the appropriate arrangement by considering the nature of the duties, applicable legal requirements and the structure of the proposed programme.

Possibly, but only where the proposed experience is appropriate and can be supervised safely.

Additional checks, restrictions and consent arrangements may apply because the placement could involve contact with adults receiving support.

This depends on the agreed placement. Contact will only occur where it is appropriate to the learning objectives and supported by suitable safeguards and supervision.

A DBS check may be required where the activities are eligible and the nature of the placement justifies one.

Not every central or project-based internship will require the same level of checking.

Moreways Healthcare cannot guarantee immigration sponsorship for internship opportunities.

Educational providers may contact us about suitable placement arrangements. We may require a formal agreement covering learning objectives, insurance, supervision, responsibilities and information sharing.

Agreement by the university does not automatically mean that Moreways Healthcare can accommodate the placement.

An internship does not guarantee future employment. Interns may apply for suitable vacancies through the usual recruitment process.

Any appointment will depend on the requirements of the vacancy, performance during recruitment and successful completion of all required checks.

Equal Opportunities

Moreways Healthcare aims to provide fair access to internships and early-career opportunities. Decisions are based on the requirements of the proposed placement, applicant suitability and our capacity to provide an appropriate experience.

We value difference and expect interns to promote dignity, equality and respect. Bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination are not acceptable.

Applicants who require a reasonable adjustment during the selection process should explain what support may be needed so that appropriate arrangements can be considered.
