Care Worker (Adult) – Level 2 Standard

What the role involves

At Moreways Healthcare, Adult Care Workers may work within supported living homes, outreach services, individual flats or other community-based placements. Your role will be shaped around the needs, strengths and goals of the person you support.

Depending on the service and individual support plan, your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting people with everyday routines and practical living skills.
• Helping individuals attend appointments, activities and community opportunities.
• Supporting people to develop confidence, independence and decision-making skills.
• Encouraging healthy routines around meals, hydration, sleep and general wellbeing.
• Providing personal care where this forms part of the agreed support package and you are appropriately trained.
• Supporting medication processes where this falls within your role, competence and training.
• Recognising changes in wellbeing, behaviour or presentation and reporting concerns promptly.
• Supporting people to maintain their home, tenancy and personal environment.
• Completing accurate daily notes and other required records.
• Working respectfully with colleagues, families and professionals involved in the person’s support.

Person-centred support

At Moreways Healthcare, support is built around the individual. Your role is not simply to complete tasks for someone, but to help them develop the skills, confidence and opportunities to do as much as possible for themselves.

You will be expected to respect each person’s choices, dignity, privacy, culture and preferred way of living while following agreed support plans and risk management arrangements.

Who you may support

Moreways Healthcare supports adults with a wide range of needs. Depending on your placement, you may work with people who require support relating to:

• Mental health needs
• Learning disabilities
• Autism
• Complex emotional needs
• Dual diagnosis and co-occurring needs
• Forensic or step-down pathways
• Positive behaviour support
• Community reintegration
• Independent living and tenancy skills
• Transitions from hospital, residential care or more intensive services

Working as part of a team

You will work as part of a wider support team and will receive supervision and guidance from more experienced colleagues and managers.

Good communication is essential. You will need to contribute to handovers, report concerns appropriately and maintain clear records so that support remains consistent and safe.

You will always be expected to work within the limits of your role, training and competence and to seek guidance when you are unsure.

Programme duration

The apprenticeship will typically take approximately 15–18 months to complete, depending on individual progress and the programme agreed with the apprenticeship provider.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a genuine interest in adult social care and demonstrate the values required to support people respectfully, safely and compassionately.

English and maths requirements will depend on the apprenticeship provider and applicable apprenticeship standard. Where required, apprentices may complete Functional Skills alongside the programme before progressing to the end-point assessment.

Previous experience in care can be helpful but is not always essential. Reliability, communication, willingness to learn and respect for the people we support are particularly important.

Care Certificate and professional standards

Where applicable, you will be supported to complete or demonstrate the Care Certificate standards as part of your induction and professional development.

You will also complete Moreways Healthcare’s mandatory training and any additional service-specific learning required for your placement.

All staff are expected to follow Moreways Healthcare policies and procedures, safeguarding requirements and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England.

Next steps

Successful completion of this apprenticeship can provide a strong foundation for progression into more experienced support roles and further qualifications within adult social care.

For suitable apprentices, future progression may include a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker or Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, subject to experience, role requirements and entry criteria.
