Lead Adult Care Worker – Level 3 Apprenticeship

Develop as a frontline leader while helping people achieve greater independence, stability and quality of life.

Lead Adult Care Workers at Moreways Healthcare combine high-quality person-centred support with greater responsibility for guiding colleagues, maintaining standards and helping ensure that support is delivered consistently and safely.

This Level 3 apprenticeship is suited to experienced support workers who are ready to take the next step in their career and develop their leadership, judgement and professional accountability within specialist supported living and community services.

What the role involves

As a Lead Adult Care Worker, you will support adults with a wide range of needs while also contributing to the day-to-day leadership of the service. You will be expected to use sound judgement, communicate effectively and help colleagues work in accordance with agreed support plans, risk management arrangements and organisational procedures.

Your role may include:

  • Providing high-quality, person-centred support to individuals in supported living and community settings.
  • Promoting independence, dignity, choice and control in everyday life.
  • Supporting individuals to work towards agreed outcomes, recovery goals and greater independence.
  • Guiding and supporting less experienced colleagues during shifts.
  • Contributing to handovers, shift coordination and continuity of support.
  • Helping ensure that agreed support plans and risk management measures are followed.
  • Recognising changes in a person’s presentation, wellbeing or behaviour and taking appropriate action.
  • Escalating safeguarding, health, behavioural or operational concerns promptly.
  • Supporting accurate record keeping, incident reporting and professional documentation.
  • Working closely with managers, families, social workers, community mental health teams and other professionals.

Frontline leadership

This role carries greater responsibility than a standard support worker position. You may be expected to provide guidance to colleagues, model good practice and help maintain a calm, organised and professional approach during the shift.

Depending on the service, you may contribute to allocating tasks, supporting less experienced staff, reinforcing professional standards and ensuring that important information is communicated clearly between shifts.

You will not be expected to work beyond your competence or authority, but you will be expected to recognise when action is needed and to escalate appropriately.

Who you may support

Moreways Healthcare supports adults with varied and sometimes complex needs. Depending on your placement, you may work with people who require support relating to:

  • Mental health and recovery
  • Learning disabilities
  • Autism
  • Complex emotional needs
  • Dual diagnosis and co-occurring needs
  • Forensic histories and Section 37/41 pathways
  • Positive behaviour support
  • Community reintegration
  • Independent living and tenancy skills
  • Transitions from hospital or more intensive services

Where you could work

You may work within one of our supported living homes, outreach services, individual flats or other community-based placements.

Our services are designed to support people in ordinary living environments rather than institutional settings. Staff are expected to balance safety and risk management with the person’s rights, choices and aspirations.

  • Person-centred support planning
  • Risk management and professional judgement
  • Safeguarding and duty of care
