Moreways Healthcare
Premier Care
Moreways Healthcare • Supported Living
Cleaner (Part Time)
Help us maintain clean, safe and welcoming supported living environments while respecting that our services are first and foremost the homes of the people we support.
About the role
Moreways Healthcare provides specialist supported living and community-based support for adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and forensic or step-down support requirements.
We are looking for a reliable and conscientious Part-Time Cleaner to help maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation within our supported living services.
This role is important to the everyday quality of our services. A clean environment contributes to comfort, infection prevention, safety and people’s overall experience of their home.
Unlike cleaning within a conventional commercial building, you will be working within people’s living environments. Respect for residents’ privacy, dignity, routines and personal space is therefore essential.
Clean
Maintain consistently high standards across communal and agreed service areas using appropriate cleaning methods and products.
Safe
Follow infection-prevention, COSHH, health and safety and safe-storage requirements at all times.
Respectful
Remember that supported living is someone’s home and carry out your work with sensitivity, discretion and respect.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout agreed areas of Moreways Healthcare services.
- Clean communal lounges, corridors, kitchens, bathrooms and other shared areas as allocated.
- Clean offices, staff areas and other operational spaces where required.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors using the appropriate equipment and cleaning method.
- Dust and wipe surfaces, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in accordance with appropriate hygiene procedures.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of waste safely in designated areas.
- Replenish agreed consumables such as soap, paper products and cleaning supplies.
- Clean kitchens and food-preparation surfaces in accordance with hygiene standards.
- Clean bathrooms, toilets and other sanitary areas to an appropriate standard.
- Use cleaning products safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and COSHH requirements.
- Ensure chemicals and cleaning equipment are stored securely and are not left accessible where this could create a risk.
- Monitor stocks of cleaning materials and advise the appropriate manager when supplies require replenishment.
- Identify and report maintenance defects, damage, hazards or environmental concerns promptly.
- Use warning signs and other precautions when cleaning floors or undertaking activities that could temporarily create a hazard.
- Follow infection-prevention procedures and use personal protective equipment where required.
- Complete relevant cleaning schedules or records accurately where these are used within the service.
- Attend required training, supervision or service meetings relevant to the role.
Working in someone’s home
Moreways Healthcare’s supported living properties are not institutional facilities. They are the homes of the people who live there.
This distinction matters. Residents should be treated with the same respect you would expect when working inside anybody else’s home.
You should knock and seek appropriate permission before entering private areas, respect people’s belongings and routines and avoid unnecessary disruption.
Cleaning of individual bedrooms, flats or other private spaces will depend on the arrangements for that particular service and resident. You should not assume that a cleaner has unrestricted access simply because the property forms part of a supported living service.
Areas you may work within
Health, safety and infection prevention
Safe cleaning practice is particularly important within environments used by several people.
You will be expected to understand and follow instructions relating to cleaning products, COSHH, infection prevention, personal protective equipment, waste disposal and safe manual handling.
You should recognise environmental hazards and report them promptly. This might include damaged flooring, leaks, broken fixtures, unsafe electrical equipment, defective furniture or other maintenance concerns noticed while carrying out your duties.
Cleaning materials must always be stored securely and in accordance with the risk arrangements of the particular service.
Working alongside residents and support teams
You will regularly work around residents and support staff, so good communication and a respectful manner are important.
Some people we support may have autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs or other conditions that affect communication, sensory processing or tolerance of noise and disruption.
Staff may therefore advise you about appropriate timings, particular sensitivities or areas requiring a specific approach. You should work cooperatively with the team while maintaining the boundaries of your own role.
You are not employed as a Support Worker and should not undertake care or support duties for which you have not been trained or authorised. If a resident requires assistance outside your role, seek support from the appropriate member of the care or support team.
What we are looking for
Experience
Previous professional cleaning experience within supported housing, social care, healthcare, hospitality, education or another environment where high standards of hygiene are important would be advantageous.
However, reliability, attention to detail, safe working practice and respect for the people whose homes you are working within are equally important.
You should be able to work independently, manage a cleaning schedule and communicate clearly with colleagues and managers.
Why join Moreways Healthcare?
- Work within welcoming supported living environments where your contribution makes a visible difference every day.
- Become part of an organisation supporting adults to live safely and independently within the community.
- Work alongside experienced service managers and support teams.
- Receive relevant induction and training for your role.
- Work in an environment where cleanliness, dignity and quality are treated as part of good support rather than an afterthought.
- Contribute directly to making our supported living homes comfortable, hygienic and pleasant places to live.
What good looks like
Good cleaning is often noticed most when it is absent. In this role, success means maintaining consistently clean and hygienic environments without unnecessarily disrupting the people who live there.
It also means noticing problems early, storing products safely, communicating concerns and understanding that quality extends beyond appearance to hygiene, safety and respect.
If you are reliable, organised, respectful and committed to maintaining excellent standards, we would welcome your application to join Moreways Healthcare as a Part-Time Cleaner.
